IN MEMORY - ABOUT our FOUNDER:
Jonnie Kelley began her dance career early, teaching for the studio in her hometown of Griffin, Georgia. She had a singular passion for dance that led her to New York and the National Ballet School of Canada. After a career dancing professionally in ballets, musical comedy productions, dinner theaters and touring groups, she turned her focus to teaching dance. On purchasing The Little Studio in Doraville, Georgia, it was renamed The Dancer's Studio. In 1990, she bought Backstage Studio, merging the two into today's The Dancer's Studio/Backstage in Alpharetta, Georgia.
Jonnie not only taught classical ballet and tap, but also sat on the councils of many arts and dance organizations, including the Southeastern Regional Ballet Association (SERBA).
The Dancer's Studio/Backstage is the home of Atlanta Dance Theatre, a pre-professional performing company for students ages 8 through 18. ADT is an honor member of SERBA, and has served to launch the careers of many graduates. Currently, DSBS and ADT has had students studying at such illustrious institutions as the Juilliard School and Alvin Ailey Dance Theatre, as well as alumnae who have performed in professional ballet, modern, and contemporary companies as well as on Broadway and other musical theater stages around the world.
