Jazz dance includes a broad range of dance styles from its earliest roots originating from vernacular dance and transforming in the 30's and 40's into a theatre-based performance form of dance that required a highly trained dancer to perform a specific set of movements. Jazz was a big hit in the early 50's and it is still a well loved style of dance all over the world.
Throughout its history, jazz dance has developed in parallel to popular music, integrating syncopated rhythm and improvisation, a low center of gravity and high level of energy. Distinguishing moves or isolations used In Jazz Dance include Jazz Hands, Kicks, Leaps, Sideways Shuffling, Rolled Shoulders, and Turned Knees.
At The Dancer's Studio/Backstage students receive specialized instruction and can progress annually from beginner jazz classes to intermediate and advanced classes. Each class level introduces new concepts and helps the students learn, expand, and fine tune their techniques.
