Atlanta
Dance Theatre
is an
“Honor Company” member of the
Southeastern Regional Ballet
Association (SERBA). |
|
|
|
SERBA is the
oldest (and largest) region of Regional Dance America, covering the
southeast US from Virginia to Florida to Mississippi with 26 member
companies. |
| |
|
Each year, all
member companies gather at the home city of one host member for
“Festival”, three or four days of classes, performances, and fun.
The interchange among dancers, directors, choreographers, and
world-class teachers over the intensive festival period is one of
the greatest benefits of Regional Dance America. This year SERBA
is participating in the National Regional Dance America Festival in
Pittsburg, PA.
3,000 participants are expected to attend, most of them young
dancers from all over the nation. |
| |
|
Dance works
are selected to be performed by each company through an adjudication
process held earlier in the year. The excitement of the festival
builds over the three-four days, culminating in a Gala performance
of the top pieces adjudicated each year. |
| |
|
RDA maintains
the highest standard for dance excellence through a membership
process that: |
| |
 |
Requires
perspective companies to be interviewed, auditioned and
sponsored before being admitted to the organization as an
“Intern Company”. |
| |
|
 |
After one
year, companies move to “Performing Company” status. |
| |
|
 |
After a
company has been selected to perform at the Gala Performance for
three of five consecutive years it becomes the highest level of
“Honor Company”. |
| |
|
 |
To
maintain “Honor Company” status, companies must continue to be
selected to perform three of five years on an ongoing basis.
Those companies who do not meet this requirement are moved back
to Performing Company status. |
|
| |
|
For the past
four years, Atlanta Dance
Theatre has been selected to perform at the Saturday Night Gala performance! This is quite an honor. |
