Welcome to Atlanta Dance Theatre!

ADT performed its first concert in May 1982, entitled “Dinner and Gershwin” to a standing room only dinner theatre audience.  In March 1983, the company presented its first annual repertory concert.  ADT has provided guest performers for several other area dance companies.  In addition, “They Hear Georgia Singing”, a tribute to Georgia’s composers, lyricists and performers based on the book by Georgia Governor Zell Miller, was presented in school systems throughout the Atlanta area.  An original production of “Babes in Toyland” debuted in December of 1991.  This production, based on the Victor Herbert play is now in it 16th year at the Roswell Cultural Arts Center.  Choreographed by Jonnie Kelley and the late Jorge Guevara, “Babes in Toyland” features 100 performers ranging in ages from 6 to 60.

The company itself is derived from talent within the Dancer’s Studio/Backstage School, a fixture in the Atlanta area for over 30 years.  Today the company is comprised of a cross section of ethnicities—dancers ages 9-adult.   Our Mission Statement incorporates the following five key tenets:

To offer professional caliber performances to the North Fulton community, inspired by love of the dance art form.

To advance the training of the serious dancer by providing high quality training and performance opportunities.

To benefit the community with alternatives by presenting our Holiday production of “Babes in Toyland”, now in its 14th season.

To benefit the North Fulton Community Charities and local schools by offering free tickets to performances and by making special performances available to scout troops and schools.

To teach our young dancers not only the value of a well-trained, healthy body, but to also give them the opportunity to contribute to their community with their time and talent in a positive way.

Our short-term goals are to deliver against the directive of our Mission statement each and every performing season through providing professional level family entertainment through the dance art form.  Our long term goal is to establish new traditions in the North Fulton community and to consistently provide quality ballet productions (such as “Beauty and the Beast” (1999), “Coppelia” (2000), “Sleeping Beauty” (2001), “Alice in Wonderland” (2002), “Cinderella”  (2003), Hansel & Gretel (2004), “Sleeping Beauty” (2005), "Twelve Dancing Princesses" (2006) and "Fairytale Favorites" (2007) to a part of the Atlanta community which is not routinely exposed to these classical ballet offerings.   ADT intends to continue our “newer” tradition of offering a family classic ballet each and every spring.  Our board of Directors early in the calendar year makes the decisions regarding which ballets to mount.
